Even though we have had a lot of photos and exposure of The Dark Knight Rises most of it were set videos and nothing official from Warner Brothers. This has now changed as the marketing for TDKR has kicked in full gear.

Following in The Simpsons’s footsteps we have a Futurama Christmas special. Futurama created by Matt Groening on first glance appears to be an over the top Simpsons Rip-Off in the future, but the series is a completely different way for satirized storytelling.

Long before The Simpsons became the sad joke they are right now the series redefined the way we look at serialized animated storytelling. Combining jokes, theology, philosophy, history, science into an entertaining mix for both adults and children. While there were many hilarious episodes in later seasons the earlier seasons were a lot heavier on the family drama and the moments between the members of the Simpsons family.

Real Steel is about a world where boxing is no longer a sport for humans. Instead we now have two robots hitting each other in the ring. Amidst all this CGI we find Hugh Jackman – a disillusioned ex-boxer who now remote controls robots for fairs. He also likes to gamble and tends to make a load of debts with all the wrong people.

Enter his son who he now has to spend two months even though he doesn’t want to. When the son finds a robot on a junkyard he is convinced that this robot can be programmed to win a lot of money.

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year – horror is a versatile genre and it gives artists a lot of freedom. Sometimes people look down on the genre as just something idiotic with no real content, but that is far from the truth. The only genre that has as much trouble getting taken seriously would probably be comedy.

Note: this is a special review since a colleague of mine had the pleasure of visiting England a couple of days ago, where he managed to watch a screening of the already highly acclaimed (and highly anticipated by this site) Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

In this movie adaption of the book Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (by John le Carré) Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight) plays Smiley, a former spy who returns from retirement to find a mole in the MI6.
