They have burnt him, they have decapitated him, they have shot his heart…

Banner Chucky 2

The setup for Child’s Play is quite simple: two criminals are chased by the police and one of the two makes a run for it – leaving his partner Charles “Chucky” Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) behind. Charles then breaks into a toy shop to escape the detective Mike (Chris Sarandon) who has mortally wounded Chucky. So far so good, nothing out of the usual here… that is until Charles uses Voodoo magic to teleport his soul into a Good Guys doll.

We then go through the motions with Karen Barclay (Catherine Hicks) and her son Andy (Alex Vincent) who would like nothing more than to get a Good Guys doll for his sixth birthday. And if you can put two and two together the rest of the plot is not quite hard to guess.

In 1988 Child’s Play started a franchise about a doll who was possessed by the murderous soul of Charles “Chucky” Lee Ray (Brad Dourif). 25 years later the fifth sequel of the franchise arrives and this is a welcome excuse for me to do a complete retrospective of the Child’s Play – franchise, a string of stories that have accompanied me through a large chunk of my life and have been very personal experiences:

You’re Next invites us to join a family meeting and leads us through the very tense relationships between the ten characters before all hell breaks loose. When a killer armed with a crossbow attacks a tight slasher starts and before we know it the film effortlessly changes the tone and we are left with one of the most entertaining slashers in years.

 Gravity 2

When a storm of debries from a shot down satellite surprises a shuttle from the ISS (International Space Station) the surviving astronauts Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) must fight to stay alive and make it back to safety in one piece.

Cuarón returns
It has been seven years since Alfonso Cuarón’s Children of Men – a brilliant and layered science fiction film weaving social and polticial commentary together with fantastic characters and staggering images.

Seven years is an awfully long time for a director to follow this movie whose critical praise has only increased since then. The obvious question is was it worth the wait?

 White House Down Banner

Roland Emmerich is back and this time he can’t blow up cities as he is confined to a single building (which he already blew up in 1996). So is White House Down preventing Emmerich from doing the only thing he knows how to do?

Well it seems Star Wars isn’t the only franchise to get the spin-off treatment. Warner Brothers announced that there will be a new movie set in the Harry Potter universe. But it might not be the story you suspected:
