Battle for the Thrones Banner

HBO has released 17 new images for the upcoming fourth season of Game of Thrones. They are pretty much character posters that don’t give much away for the upcoming stories. But it is nice to see the characters who will return on April 6th for the battle raging on in the world created by George R.R. Martin.

The Luthor Network

Say what you want about Batman vs. Superman vs. Wonder Woman vs. Lex Luthor but there is rarely a news that is unsurprising (the jury on good or bad is still out). And the two new casting announcements are no different. Introducing the new Lex Luthor and Alfred:

Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and Jeremy Irons (Margin Call)!

12 years 3

Director Steve McQueen’s third movie 12 Years a Slave is based on the autobiography by Solomon Northup (portrayed by Chiwetel Ejiofor). A free black man from New York in 1841 who got abducted by two men who pretending to hire him as a violinist. Very quickly Solomon – now referred to as Platt – gets sold to a slaveowner (Benedict Cumberbatch) and is facing the harsh reality of working as a slave.

Riding on a lot of Oscar buzz 12 Years a Slave had me after a few minutes and after the movie was over I had this rare moment when I realized that I actually really love both frontrunners for best picture at the Oscars (Gravity being the other contender).

S04 Trailer 1

Game of Thrones returns on April 6th. And after the disastrous events of Season 3 that will surely affect this coming Season I am pumped to find out what lies ahead of us. HBO has aired a roughly 100 seconds long teaser filled with cool stuff. So this article will go into what the trailer promises us for the series to come.

Note on spoilers: as usual this article is written without knowledge from the books. It is about the expectations for Game of Thrones as a piece of television and not as an adaption so there won’t be a discussion if a certain scene or actor seems to capture or not capture stuff from the book.

It will be fun revisiting this article after the season has passed because one thing is sure about Game of Thrones: my predictions are almost always far far off from what really happens.

This november unfortunately won’t mark the end of the Hunger Games Trilogy because it was decided to split the final book titled Mockingjay into two parts (do we really need to ask why?). So this sadly means that we have almost two more years for the ending of the story of Katniss Everdeen (then again the wait doesn’t seem that long if we consider that we have a Hunger Games movie every year).

Now the first poster was published once again featuring the simple design of the Mockingjay who started out as a simple pin for Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) from her sister (or the mayor’s daughter depending if you are talking about the movie or the book) and has now become the symbol of the revolution:

Wolf of Wall Street 3

The Wolf of Wall Street is based on the memoir of Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) who founded the brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont and committed quite a handful of frauds. Directed by Martin Scorsese (Hugo) the movie chronicle’s Belfort’s descent into a world of crime, drugs and devastation.
And despite some mixed reviews and a lot of controversy surrounding its release I found myself enjoying the movie quite a lot – although enjoying might be the wrong phrase to use when we are talking about a 3 hour story about horrible people doing horrible things.

Sherlock into Darkness 1

The resolution of Sherlock’s second season is imminent and this article being written so close to the airing of the Season 3 premiere is an exercise in pointlessness. But similarly my Gandalf/Radagst speculation I just want to write down my thoughts before I watch the product.

Plus, I am super convinced that no matter what happens in the Season premiere THIS is the definitive answer to what happened in the second season of Sherlock).

WARNING!: There will be spoilers for Sherlock’s first two seasons and Star Trek Into Darkness.

Trust me… I have gone through all the episodes frame by frame and I have now discovered all the missing details. Writer Steven Moffat hinted during an interview that he was aware of all the fan speculation but that all the theories on the internet he had come across had missed one important detail that will explain everything about how Sherlock cheated death.

And I can now say that I am 99% sure of what detail he meant and that the answer is trickier than we thought. You see, Sherlock Holmes is not really Sherlock Holmes, it was just a smokescreen to conceal his true identity. His real name, is…

Sherlock Banner

On January 1st the British re-interpration of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes will return in the form of the third Season of BBC’s Sherlock. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness, The Hobbit) as the title giving detective and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Ali G. Inda House (yes, check it out just to see Freeman as a gangsta!)) as Dr. John Watson. And after the cliffhanger from Season 2 featuring a confrontation between Sherlock and his archenemy Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) we had to wait 2 years to find out what happened in these final moments.

This essay will contain spoilers for Season 1-2 of Sherlock and will go into the depths of my fears for Season 3:
