They have burnt him, they have decapitated him, they have shot his heart…
… but now he is back!
… and it won’t be the last time.

Banner Chucky 2

In Child’s Play 2 (1990) the doll possessed by the murderous Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) returns to complete what he started in part 1: transport his soul into Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) before he is trapped in the body of the puppet.

The setup for Child’s Play is quite simple: two criminals are chased by the police and one of the two makes a run for it – leaving his partner Charles “Chucky” Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) behind. Charles then breaks into a toy shop to escape the detective Mike (Chris Sarandon) who has mortally wounded Chucky. So far so good, nothing out of the usual here… that is until Charles uses Voodoo magic to teleport his soul into a Good Guys doll.

We then go through the motions with Karen Barclay (Catherine Hicks) and her son Andy (Alex Vincent) who would like nothing more than to get a Good Guys doll for his sixth birthday. And if you can put two and two together the rest of the plot is not quite hard to guess.

In 1988 Child’s Play started a franchise about a doll who was possessed by the murderous soul of Charles “Chucky” Lee Ray (Brad Dourif). 25 years later the fifth sequel of the franchise arrives and this is a welcome excuse for me to do a complete retrospective of the Child’s Play – franchise, a string of stories that have accompanied me through a large chunk of my life and have been very personal experiences:

batman trilogy special banner

A year ago o July 20th I saw one of my most hyped up movies: The Dark Knight Rises
The conclusion of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy or – as it is now know – the Dark Knight Trilogy.
Only a year?

After some initial uncertainties with The Dark Knight Rises as a final installment I went back to rewatch the trilogy and see it as a whole. And the more I thought about it, the more all the pieces fit together.

Many problems I had with the plot – especially the idea of legacy – were because I was expecting  a different take on Batman but it is undeniably clear that Christopher Nolan has had a vision for a story and never compromised. We can agree and disagree but it is truly a sign of a storyteller expressing his vision of a character.

And because of this Nolan’s trilogy is the measure stick for superhero trilogies and movie trilogies in general. And it will probably remain for quite some time.

To celebrate a fantastic and unique run for 7 years in the theaters I listed 3 moments from the 3 movies – as well as a special mention – to highlight why I think that this trilogy stands tall above most blockbusters
