Wir sind auf der finalen Strecke des Oscar-Rennens und großer Favorit bleibt Alfonso Cuarons Roma. Auf den ersten Blick wirkt Roma nicht wie ein Film, bei dem die Effektekünstler viel zu tun hatten. Im Interview mit VFX-Produzenten Bryce Nielsen wird jedoch schnell klar, wieviel Detailarbeit in diesem Film steckt.

Summary
Bryce Nielsen worked as VFX-producer on multiple high profile pictures such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Iron Man 2, The Great Wall and Cloud Atlas. He worked on Roma for two years.
Among the biggest tasks on Roma were invisible effects where the architecture of 70s Mexico City had to be seamlessly integrated into the filmed footage.
In the podcast Bryan elaborates that one of the biggest challenges was matching the exact color palette due to the black and white nature of the film. If not properly adjusted, the CGI-buildings would pop out and be easily spotted. The problem was solved by coloring the black and white image to allow precise matching of filmed footage and digital image.
The opening shot of the movie was a total of six months of work and probably the biggest “invisible” VFX-shot. After two years of intense work on Roma Bryce will head back to Berlin to search for his next project. He admits that after working on such a passion project, it will be difficult to find a similarly inspiring project.
