Well it seems Star Wars isn’t the only franchise to get the spin-off treatment. Warner Brothers announced that there will be a new movie set in the Harry Potter universe. But it might not be the story you suspected:
No, we won’t get a Neville-is-the-greatest-spin off movie. Instead the story will be about Newt Scamander…
If that name doesn’t ring a bell it is the author in Rowling’s universe who has written the go-to schoolbook for Care of Magical Creatures (the suicidal course by Hagrid). So the movie will not be about a character that the moviegoing audience (and many of the readers for that fact) are familiar.
Here is what Rowling said about the decision:
It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of ‘Fantastic Beasts,’ realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood.

So wait, what? Luna is not married to Neville and they have adventures in space?
Anyways, Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them will be written by Rowling herself – marking her first outing as a screenwriter.
