Warner Brothers unveiled the first image of Henry Cavill as Man of Steel in the upcoming 2012 movie of the same name – directed by ZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK SNYYYYYYYDR.
Seems similar to Amazing Spider-Man that the first images are very DARK and DARK:
Let’s ignore Zack Snyder’s fantastic talent for directing and storytelling and just focus on the picture: wow locks very gritty… and I can’t help but see the similarities with the first shot of Amazing Spider-Man
This might be tricky since both share the same color palette in their costume (since apparently the primary colors of Superman’s costume are now just two and some grey thing that might pass for yellow), but also the fabric style seems so similar and in both cases I hope my initial prejudice is wrong because inside my head I scream
“Oh Batman what have you done?”
Add to the fact that executives think that going darker = more money as seen with recent interviews about Green Lantern (although a good script would already work more wonders than going darker) I just hope that at least something will be preserved.
Yes both Spidey and Superman are “do-gooders” which is considered cheesy, corny and the american way… or something, but especially those two characters (aside with probably Captain America and Green Lantern) should be optimistic and uplifting.
Yes Superman is the guy no one likes because he is so perfect, yes it is more interesting to watch Batman do stuff than anything that happens in Superman Returns, but that doesn’t change the fact that if you make Superman too dark and gritty that you lose what was the reason for the character in the beginning…
Well no need crying before getting punched in the chest, let’s wait for the slow mo trailer for Man of Steel and hope it is better than what we have seen of Amazing Spider-Man (in THREEE DEEE).
