True Sci Fi is quite a rare breed since it is not that accessible of a genre. There are many movies that use the sci fi setting to tell a story with new sets (Star Trek 09, Star Wars, Avatar) but the “hard sci fi” where the setting is the story and the conflict is something that only sporadically shows up now and then, but when it appears it is a fascinating story about the limits and limitlessness of the human mind (2001, Blade Runner, Primer).
And 2011 starts (at least for the Santa Barbara Film Festival) with a promising sci fi movie: Love
It is the story about an astronaut on the International Space Station (ISS) who loses contact with earth and has to cope with the concept of being all alone in space, an intriguing premise, let’s hope the movie delivers:
