Now this might be a rough start into the Christmas season, since Let the right one in is not exactly a movie to watch when you want to cuddle together, but since there will be so many schmaltzy movies down that list I decided to get the kitsch at the end and the less Christmas-like movies at the beginning.
The movie is not a Christmas movie, but the themes of love and friendship even in the darkest times are things this movie tackles better than 99% of the “real Christmas movies” plus the fact that there is snow everywhere to get in winter mood is excuse enough for me to include it on the list.
Let the right one in is a swedish movie about the friendship between the loner Oskar and the girl Eli who has moved in next door.
The snowy scenery of Sweden sets up one of the most perfect movies I have experienced in the last few years about a friendship that leaps past the boundaries moral and social bounds and the fact that Eli turns out ot be a vampire is just another factor that makes this beautiful movie all the more interesting.
If you have not seen Let the right one in and you are interested in supernatural stories or stories that treat vampires as actual vampires – basically if you are fed up with teens going crazy for hollow garbage like Twilihght – then enjoy a movie that brings vampires back to their roots but never forgets that it is not about the flashy capes and turning into bats but about the human element within these things.
